Rehab benefits all post-op patients but it is very important for dogs that have are athletic and for dogs who have other orthopedic or medical conditions. Rehabilitation therapy is part of offering the very best care for our patients. We generally like to see patients who are post-op on or around 4 weeks after surgery. We will confirm behavioral control of the patient and assess pain management and early healing. The rehab plan will include manual therapy, laser treatment, and ultimately some underwater treadmill work. We assign a home exercise plan and progress those efforts as the patient heals. Our goal is that by the time we have orthopedic healing of the bone/implants we are ready to have the patient resume much of their normal activities!
